Ben Engineering provides Designated Substance Surveys to comply with Section 30 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) and Ontario Regulation 490/09. Under these legislations, designated substances and other hazardous building materials must be identified, removed, handled and disposed in a specific manner for the protection and the safety of workers and occupants of a building.
Such studies may be necessary prior to demolition, construction, renovation and repair projects. It is primarily required for buildings constructed prior to the early-1980s, when many of construction materials used contained these substances, and therefore are more likely to be found.

A typical Designated Substances Survey would consist of a site inspection, collecting of bulk samples and submittal for laboratory analysis.
